Class Description: Watercolor Exploration: Surfaces, Techniques, and Creations
Dive into the vibrant world of watercolor in this hands-on class! Over the course of the workshop, you’ll learn about various surfaces suitable for watercolor painting, including papers, boards, and watercolor ground.
Key topics include:
- Understanding Surfaces: Explore the characteristics of various papers and boards, and learn how the different surfaces effect the final art.
- Watercolor Paints: Gain insight into the differences between student-grade and professional paints.
- Stretching Watercolor Paper Technique: Learn ways to stretch watercolor paper to prevent buckling.
- Creating Your Own Watercolor Block: Learn the step-by-step process of making a watercolor block, which can save money and time.
- Watercolor Ground Application: Learn how to transform boards into watercolor-friendly surfaces using watercolor ground, opening up new possibilities for your artwork.
By the end of this class, you’ll leave with at least three finished watercolor paintings, a solid understanding of the materials, and the confidence to continue exploring your creative journey. Join us for an inspiring experience that celebrates the beauty and versatility of watercolor!
Required Supply List
- Watercolor Pad (Not spiral bound, around 9" x 12" size)
- Watercolor Brush
- Pencil
- Eraser
Optional: Bring watercolor paints if you have them. The first day of class I will talk about different types of paints available.
Supply Kit (Available for an additional $40)
- One 9" x 12" watercolor pad
- A small, medium and large watercolor brush
- One kneaded eraser
- One sheet of transfer paper
- A watercolor palette with Windsor and Newton paints enough for class.
